WavCast Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 7, 2026

WavCast is built and maintained by jcmappstudio. This policy explains exactly what data WavCast handles, where it goes, and what it never touches. WavCast is a privacy-first podcasts, radio, and local news app. We do not require an account, do not run our own analytics, and do not sell user data.

Data You Provide Directly

Subscriptions, listening progress, bookmarks, folders, and preferences. When you subscribe to a podcast, mark an episode played, save a bookmark, or change a setting, that data lives on your device and syncs privately to your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. It never leaves Apple's infrastructure and never reaches our servers. We have no access to it. If you sign out of iCloud or delete the app, the data stays in your iCloud until you remove it via iOS Settings.

Manually selected city. If you pick a city in the News tab to see local headlines, the city name and country code are stored locally in your device's UserDefaults and synced via iCloud. We do not store or transmit your city to any of our servers.

Data We Do Not Collect

WavCast does not run first-party analytics. We do not track which screens you view, which podcasts you play, how long you listen, or any other usage patterns. We have no first-party servers that receive telemetry from your device.

We do not require an account to use WavCast. You will never be asked to sign up, log in, or provide personal information beyond the optional permissions described below.

Optional Permissions

Location, only on Detect My City. When you tap Detect My City in the News tab, iOS asks you for one-time location permission. We use the resulting coordinates exactly once to reverse-geocode them into a city name, then immediately discard the coordinates. The resolved city name is stored on your device as described above. Location data is never transmitted to our servers.

Microphone and Speech Recognition, only on Generate Transcript. When you ask WavCast to generate a transcript for a downloaded podcast episode that does not ship one, the audio file is processed by Apple's on-device SFSpeechRecognizer. The audio never leaves your device. The resulting transcript is stored locally.

App Tracking Transparency. On first launch, iOS asks if WavCast may track you across apps. This is for Google AdMob, our advertising partner, who uses your Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) to serve personalized ads if you allow it. If you decline, AdMob serves only non-personalized ads. We do not use your IDFA for any purpose other than enabling AdMob's ad serving.

Third-Party Services

Google AdMob. WavCast displays banner ads in its free tier through Google AdMob, supplied by Google's mediation network. AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad-interaction data per their own privacy policy. Removing ads via the one-time $3.99 in-app purchase disables AdMob entirely on your device. AdMob's privacy practices are documented at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Apple iCloud and CloudKit. Your library data syncs through Apple's CloudKit, in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. We have no read or write access to your iCloud data.

Podcast feed publishers, radio stations, news sources. When you play a podcast, listen to a radio stream, or open a news headline, your device fetches content directly from the publisher's servers. Those publishers may log your IP address per their own privacy practices. WavCast does not proxy or intermediate this traffic, and we do not see any of it.

Google News. Some news sources in the WavCast catalog use Google News' RSS endpoint as a proxy for publisher coverage that lacks direct RSS. Requests to news.google.com are made by your device directly, governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

WavCast is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.

Your Rights

Because WavCast does not collect personal data on our servers, there is no data for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. To remove all WavCast data from your device, delete the app via iOS Settings. To remove the iCloud-synced copy, sign out of iCloud or delete the WavCast iCloud container in iOS Settings, Apple ID, iCloud, Manage Storage, WavCast.

To opt out of AdMob personalized advertising, revoke App Tracking Transparency for WavCast at any time via iOS Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking, WavCast.

Changes to This Policy

We will update this page if our practices change. The Last updated date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's About screen.
